Library Resources: Spotlight on the Library's GED Prep Options

Chattanooga Public Library has many resources to help you prepare for GED testing and more.

With a Chattanooga Public Library card, you have access to all kinds of free resources, including materials to help you prepare for the GED!

If you're feeling overwhelmed by all of our different options, we have a few suggestions on how to get started. If you have any questions about using these or any of our resources, call the library at 423-757-5310 or email us at ebooks@lib.chattanooga.gov.

Books and eBooks

If a physical book is the way you learn best, try our GED test prep books available at our branches including

If you want to be able to read on the go with your computer, tablet, ereader, or smartphone, try one of our eBooks. Make sure to have your library card handy so you can sign in to get eBooks such as

If you don't have time to place a hold on a book, take a look at the eBooks available in our LearningExpress Library and Testing & Education Reference Center which are available all the time! Make sure to have your library card handy if you're using a computer outside of the library. These resources also require you to make an account with them to access these eBooks, so make sure you have an email address, and think of a good password!

Online Resources

In addition to these books and eBooks, we also have some online resources that include practice tests, live online tutors, full preparation courses, and more!

Brainfuse has basic information about the GED, like how to register, best answer strategies, and more. You can also take practice tests in the different subject areas, and then connect live to online tutors who can help you work through some tough example questions.

To get started,

  1. Click here.
  2. Click the link near the top that says "Adult Learners."
  3. You'll see a few links; click the one that says "High School Equivalency Preparation."
  4. You'll need to login or create a Brainfuse account to have access to these resources, so make sure you have an email address, and think of a good password!

Gale Courses has online courses taught by real instructors, on a variety of different subjects. Each course lasts 6 weeks and most provide a certificate upon successful completion. There are 2 GED prep courses, "Prepare for the GED" and "Prepare for the GED Math Test."

To get started,

  1.  Click here.
  2. Across the top of the screen, you'll see a search bar. Do a search for "GED."
  3. Once you decide which of the 2 courses you'd like to enroll in, just click the button that says "Enroll Now," select your start date, and create an account or login if you already have one. After that, you'll have to provide your library card number, and you'll see a confirmation that you're enrolled! Make sure you complete the lessons on time, as the instructor says, so that you aren't dropped from the class.

LearningExpress Library has quizzes to assess your level of readiness for the different subject areas of the GED test. Once you know which subjects you need to work on, you can brush up on those specific skills. This resource also has eBooks and tutorials, as well as GED resources in Spanish.

To get started,

  1. Click here. Make sure to have your library card handy if you're using a computer outside the library.
  2. Towards the top of the page, a drop down menu will appear if you move your mouse where it says "All Centers." From this list, click on "High School Equivalency Center."
  3. You'll need to login or create a LearningExpress Library account to have access to these resources, so make sure you have an email address, and think of a good password!
