Bouncing Babies!

We are so excited to announce a new program for babies 0-18 months and their caregivers!  Baby Bounce will be approximately 30 minutes and involve interactive songs, finger-plays, stories, shakers, colorful scarves and lots of giggles!  All of these things are crucial for a small child's mental and social development and what better way to boost brain growth and early literacy than a fun filled storytime at the library!

“The parts of a baby’s brain that are involved in regulating emotions, language, and abstract thought grow and develop after birth,” explains Alei Burns, Youth Services Librarian for the Chattanooga Public Library. “Brain development--in other words, learning--is the process of creating, strengthening, and discarding connections, or synapses, among brain neurons.”

Caution! Readers At Work!

We had a construction zone of fun at Eastgate Library this week! As it turned out, Eastgate Library was actually under some real construction of it's own, so we met in our childrens' area for Preschool Story Time and had a real fun zone of stories, flannel boards, actions and songs.

The children made yellow "hard hat" headbands and then the Hickory Valley Garden club was on hand to help us each plant  something to give our dads for Father's Day. A big thanks to the ladies from the garden club that made this day really special for us. They also came for Adventure Club and  the kids made some spectacular terrariums!

Eastgate staff would like to invite you to any of our childrens' programs this summer as we " Dig Into Reading" !

LEGOS AT THE SOUTH BRANCH!

We are so excited!  There is a new arrival at the South Branch.... We just received our brand new Lego/Duplo table!

This new furniture means that we now have a designated space to hold the Lego and Duplo sets we have been eagerly waiting to share with you.  Please stop by to check it all out-- any time we're open

And while you are here, let us show you some cool Lego and Duplo books to reinforce the literary development that goes along with such play.  For the youngest Lego fans we have some great Duplo picture books in the DK Beginning to Read series.  For those with a bit more advanced reading skills the Lego books in the DK Beginning to Read Alone and the Reading Alone series are more appropriate, with more advanced vocabulary and sentence structure, and some (sorta) spooky content to boot.  Readers of all ages, including Lego-lovin' adults, will gain plenty of inspiration from several knock-out Lego idea books in the 688's here.

So, come' on in and play!
