Cruising the Dixie Highway

Cruising the Dixie Highway

A Chattanooga Auto Club member traveling down U. S. 41, the Dixie Highway.

Nothing better than cruising down the Dixie Highway with the wind whistling in your ears.  From the beginnings in 1907, the Chattanooga Automobile Club and the Dixie Highway Association created new roads and improved the old ones that made up the Dixie Highway and its connecting roads.  In this display are images of perilous roads, stuck motor cars, road trips, fancy hotels, tourist camps, eating joints, and roadside attractions that make up the Dixie Highway experience.  The photographs and postcards come from the Ridley Wills Collection and the Chattanooga Automobile Club/Dixie Highway Association Papers.
