|Recurring Events (See all)

An event every week that begins at 5:00 PM on Thursday, repeating until April 25, 2019

Free

Join the Studio at the Chattanooga Public Library and Matt Skudlarek for An Introduction to Mixing and Producing Songs for Radio.

Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Studio at the Chattanooga Public Library located on the 2nd floor of the downtown branch.

Registration is Required. Class is for ages 12+

What are the basic principles of mixing and production and how do I make my songs sound like what I hear on the radio?

In this class, you’ll get a hands-on crash course on everything from using compression and EQ, to mixing your tracks with effects and production elements that will rival mainstream quality. We’ll go over things such as using EQ, compression, limiting, bussing/grouping, delay and reverb, etc.

We’ll also take some existing songs and apply some filters to extrapolate more details of the mix structure in regards to panning, EQ, etc.

Because it typically takes more than just two hours to mix a song, we’ll start each class going over the elements and practices that got us to where we are at that point, and then we’ll pick up from there. We’ll be taking pre-recorded tracks that make up an entire song and we’ll take each track one by one, and give attendees the opportunity to give their input as well as have their creative opinions and existing knowledge challenged.

All skill sets are welcome – for attendees that wish to interact, some basic knowledge of music-making is recommended but not required.
