Join us at the Downtown Library for a free screening and Q&A session for Father Ryan: A Higher Call.
Father Ryan tells the story of the life of Father Patrick Ryan, who gave his life caring for the sick and dying during the 1878 yellow fever epidemic of Chattanooga.
Father Patrick Ryan was designated as a ‘Servant of God’ by the Catholic Church in 2016, launching the Cause of Sainthood and Canonization process that is currently being considered by the Vatican.
The 45-minute film chronicles the story of Father Ryan’s service during the yellow fever epidemic. Following the screening, Deacon Gaspar DeGaetano of the Basillica of Saints Peter and Paul, will give a talk on the canonization process and answer questions.
This event is being offered in conjunction with Politics of Yellow Fever in Alexander Hamilton’s America, a traveling exhibition produced and made available by The National Library of Medicine. This exhibition is viewable on the 1st Floor of the Downtown Library until February 17. Click here to read more.
